On behalf of The Skating Club of New York, we want to welcome everyone and thank you for joining us for the 97th Middle Atlantic Figure Skating Championships, as well as the John Nicks International Pairs Challenge.
Middle Atlantics is the longest running non-qualifying figure skating competition in the United States, hosted by The Skating Club of New York since 1925. Many of our country’s Olympians have competed at MIds throughout the years, including Olympic Champions Tara Lipinski and Carol Heiss, as well as Maia and Alex Shibutani, Johnny Weir and Emily Hughes.
We are pleased to be part of U.S. Figure Skating’s 2023-2024 National Qualifying Series. The series of competitions from mid-July to early October allows athletes to advance to the Sectional Singles, U.S. Pairs and U.S. Ice Dance Finals in November 2023, culminating in the 2024 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships and National Development Camp in San Jose, California.
In its first season as an international event two years ago, the John Nicks Pairs Challenge brought top pairs from across the globe, featuring some of the world’s best skaters. This event is exciting on so many levels and we are honored to be entrusted with hosting the event.
These events would not be possible without the many volunteers and officials who have dedicated themselves to making our competitions run seamlessly. We are honored to have a team of distinguished officials from a wide variety of international and domestic locations coming together to make this an elite event in every way.
Many club members give their time, expertise and support to this event and to SCNY throughout the year. They are integral and we appreciate all that they do for us. Finally, we would like to recognize the Board of Diretors for their continued dedication to our club and the sport. A huge thank you to all of you.
Again, welcome and we look forward to an incredible few days of skating. Good luck to all competitors.
