What is the latest membership report?

The Skating Club of New York with more than 1,200 members is the largest skating club in the country that is affiliated with U.S. Figure Skating. Of these members over 1,130 are active members of U.S. Figure Skating. Most members live in the greater metropolitan area of New York City. But some members keep their SCNY membership even after they leave the city. And others join because of the membership privileges and the long illustrious history of the club. You can read more about the club's history and the record number of Olympic Gold Medals held by SCNY skaters on the History page.

Membership privileges include access to test sessions, competitions, special clinics, competitive critiques, exhibitions and social events. Details about memberships are given on the Membership page.

What is the SCNY Scholarship Fund

The Skating Club of New York Scholarship Fund was created in 1998 to foster the development of the club's competitive figure skaters by helping to subsidize some of the skaters training expenses. Awards are made on the basis of three main criteria: financial need, competitive achievements and overall skating potential. Applicants must be SCNY club members for a least a year and skating at the Juvenile level or above.

Selection of recipients of awards is made by the SCNY Scholarship Committee and approved by the SCNY Board of Directors. There is no guaranteed funding to all applicants. Award amounts vary with a maximum of $2,000 a year per skater and are given for one skating season only. A new application must be submitted for any following seasons.

This year applications must be postmarked by July 1, 2011 and all applicants will be notified in early September of the results. If you are interested in receiving an application please contact Dana Schiff, SCNY Scholarship Chairman, at (646) 638-0030.

What is the Will Sears Fund

A. William Sears
1982 -2002

The Will Sears Fund was established in memory of A. William Sears, the 2002 Novice Pairs Champion and Skating Club of New York member, who died suddenly in September 2002. His tragically sudden and unexplained death in September 2002 cut short a life of boundless promise. He was a multi-talented, modern renaissance man and an extraordinarily kind human being who always strived to be the best he could be.

The goal of the fund is to keep Wills memory alive by helping young figure skaters throught the United States achieve their dreams.

US NATIONAL JUNIOR PAIRS TROPHY
At the request of The Skating Club of New York, the Junior Pairs Trophy at Nationals was rededicated as The William Sears Memorial. This year the trophy was awarded to Felicia Zhang (SCNY) and Taylor Toth (U of Delaware).
